Walsh Family Novel #1
Claire Walsh is a 29 year old fun loving, caring natured woman, who has just given birth to her first baby, when her supposedly loving husband James leaves her on the day she gives birth, Claire in an over emotional state, flys back to Ireland to live with her family in Dublin, where she is left to look after her daughter as a newly single mother and live with a body she now despises. Things start to get better over time, and when James crawls back into her life, he's welcomed by a bit of a surprise.
I have never been so attached to a book, that putting this book down became quite a challenge for me, I really felt connected to Claire, and every emotion she was going through, (may have been me supporting the woman's side of things) and also sort of jealous, even though the book starts off what may seem sad and shocking, it turns into such a roller-coaster of going on's. I rather enjoyed the way Marian Keyes wrote it like Claire was talking to us the audience, and in a funny chatty style, but I will be honest if you're looking for a quick read this probably wouldn't be the book for you, as Claire likes to go off subject just a wee bit.
I did get a bit put off by some of these ramblings just as I would of liked her to of gotten to the point, but most were pleasantly quite funny, and it made the story really feel like real life, not that you were watching Claire, but like you could of been her.
I had never read any of Marian Keyes novels before this and I have to say from reading this I really would love to read more of her work, I would say the book definitely is aimed for a female audience (not saying men can't read it to) as some subjects are mentioned that men probably wouldn't be too interested to hear about (cough, lady things, cough).
Only problem I had was with James, I really could not see Claire being with a man like that in the first place, and I was actually quite disappointed by him when his character get's properly introduced.
I really did enjoy this book, there are mixed reviews and I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I would say give this book a try and make your own opinion on it.
I give this book a 3.5 out 5.
